Confession: Not everything I wear, every single day, makes me eager to tell strangers that I have a fashion design degree.
Last week I decided to keep track of a week of the casual, everyday outfits. Its a bit of a self style exam – do I usually wear things that do put a kick of joy in the day or not? And also, I’ve done a fair amount of google searching to see if anyone is covering women’s work wear in the video game industry, and there isn’t much. So here’s a week of what I actually wear to work at a game dev/pub, with weekend book ends. Also my dog Echo judging me a lot.

What:
Joes Jeans, West Kei embroidered bomber jacket, old BCBG tee, Puma high top sneakers.
Where:
Running errands and shopping around Dallas mostly – Shops at Parklane, some other spots.
Notes:
I was wearing red lipstick but you can’t really see it.

What:
Blue gauzy button down from Target, J Brand Love Story jeans, Cole Hann oxford shoes, Steve Madden necklace, gray drapey jacket.
Where:
Work. My work style might be a little boring at times. But, this is still one of the few actual documentations of what the wear to work in the video game industry so.. I’m basically doing important journalistic work.
Notes:
I bought those shoes at a Nordstrom Rack in LA after I broke my boots while on a press tour for Battleborn. They were marked as “refurbished” and way cheaper than they would have been otherwise. Not sure what refurbished implies but.. yolo?

What:
Oh look, plain Joes Jeans again. And those same Pumas. Also a Melrose & Market basic gray sweater. Nasty Gal necklace.
Where:
To work during the day. It was suddenly cold, and I knew I was going to work out afterwards, then changing to go out for our anniversary.
Notes:
When it gets cold in Texas, its hard to get dressed and keep it any kind of interesting. It feels extra extra cold, because you aren’t used to it, and also you prob dont have a ton of cold weather stuff to choose from.

What:
Black Milk Hamlet leggings bequeathed to me by Myra, sequin top, suit jacket, Rose Gold boots from an XFX photo shoot in another lifetime.
Where:
Out to dinner at Nicola’s in Plano for our 12th anniversary.
Notes:
I wore the Hamlet leggings because Shakespeare was one of the first things that Thom and I discovered we both liked. His first Valentine’s gift to me was a collected works hardcover.

What:
Empire Strikes Back tee from Target, Beta Brand “Work It” pants, psuedo suede jacket, Aldo sneakers.
Where:
Work, where else.
Notes:
The next day @theagentfoxie wore the same tee to the office, so its a verified Women in Gaming pick.

What:
Cupcakes & Cashmere moto sweater – which is a little funny because the blog’s fashion coverage is… a little bland/expected to me.. I hate to say that, maybe more correctly its just not my style. But this sweater jumped out of a clearance rack calling my name. Also Target thermal shirt, Cole Hann oxford shoes, J Brand Love Story jeans again, hat and pink plastic and lava bead necklace that I made.
Where:
Turns out I go to work every day.
Notes:
Day was cold. Hair was dirty. When I was trying to make this look put together, I thought of Man Repeller’s advice to “Wear Summer Jewelry Now” and thought.. what the hell. This necklace isn’t usually what I’d wear, and actually I didn’t make it for myself. I just failed to get rid of it, and started occasionally wearing it when I’m feeling more pink than usual.

What:
BCBG sweater, Joe’s Jeans, Puma Sneakers, H&M rhinestone necklace, cheap earrings from forever ago.
Where:
Work work work
Notes:
I woke up late that day, but my hair was even dirtier than the day before, so I HAD to shower. So, I slicked it back.

What:
Victoria’s Secret sweater from several years ago, oh look, I wear the same jeans all the time. H&M necklace.
Where:
Headed out to the tattoo shop.
Notes:
Its hard to pick something to wear to get tattooed in on a really cold day.
